The Social Media in Support of the Philippine President - #DU30

From the campaign, to the debates then to the elections, people have been so supportive of (now) President Duterte. Some even led to quarrels and stained relationships just so to voice out their opinions that somehow made me question: "What can you really do to have CHANGE in the Philippines?"

The simple man from Davao City who happens to be the Mayor now will lead the country - resting on his transparency, bluntness and honesty. A lawyer that somehow has become a household name which meant "Peace and Justice" to Davaoenos and to the citizens who know him.

Social media has been a powerful tool in making the hashtag #DU30 go around the internet. Internet memes, blogs, open letters and of course - online polls were done to support the campaign that led to his landslide win. Looking at the other side of the picture, the same medium was and is being used to bash the said man - even the other candidates.

It makes me wonder - how long does it take for this man to have this good image in Social Media?

As citizens, we are expected to follow the laws and policies. Such of the laws would be the "Anti-Cyber Bullying Law" which (as I see it) has always been VIOLATED by many. The Philippine citizenry has always been so opinionated and vocal through Social Media but most of the time - go beyond the line of responsible use of the internet.

Yes - It is our freedom to say what we want to say.

Yes - It is our right since these are our personal accounts.

Yes - It is our voice because there is power in using Social Media.

It will never be always YES. Somehow, limits make the issues lighter and easier to handle. Respect and responsibility must be kept in mind. Social Media is a powerful tool -  we should know better.

"What can you really do to have change in the Philippines?" -  still makes my mind go tick-tock.

What if all Social Media users only spread the good word? Would it make a difference?

Starting today and onwards, would Social Media be a long-time friend of the new president who somehow is never personally active in the said medium?

Im interested on how things would go for everyone. But all at the same time, I am optimistic of the change that President Duterte would bring to the country.

What do you think?
